EDDY ARNOLD 1918–2008
Country Music legend Eddy Arnold passed away on the morning of May 8 at an assisted living center near Nashville. He was 89 years old (he would have turned 90 on May 15). Known as "The Tennessee Plowboy," he scored a huge number of country and pop hits, including "Make The World Go Away," "I Want To Go With You" and "You Don't Know Me," among others. Arnold had 28 number one hits on the Billboard Country Singles chart, and 92 Top 10 hits. In 1948, only one record not by Arnold topped the country chart – the rest of the year, Eddy dominated the number one slot. He released his hundredth album, After All This Time, in 2005. Arnold's wife of 66 years, Sally Gayhart Arnold, passed away in March. He is survived by their children, Richard Edward Jr. and Jo Ann Pollard. He had two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
