Martha Stewart Living Personalities
Andrew Beckman, AVP, Editorial Director, Gardening As the editorial director of gardening, Martha's longtime head gardener Andrew Beckman spends his days planting seeds of ideas and nurturing them along. A knack for planning ahead, then waiting patiently, comes in handy in the garden -- and at work, too. His team conceives all of its stories up to two years before they're published and then produces them a year in advance. Andrew has a degree in landscape architecture and a practical degree in horticulture from Pennsylvania's prestigious Longwood Gardens. He also co-owns a nursery in Columbia County, New York. He travels the country visiting nurseries and gardens, attending lectures, and researching new plants, and is always talking with fellow gardeners about what interests them. You can listen to Andrew, along with deputy editor of gardening Tony Bielaczyc, talk plants on "Homegrown," his radio show on Martha Stewart Living Radio (Sirius 112 and XM 157).
Tony Bielaczyc From his humble beginnings as a 6-year-old with a seed packet of zinnias, Tony Bielaczyc went on to get his MFA at the University of Wisconsin. While working toward his degree, Tony gardened at the University's propagation greenhouses, and at the Allen Centennial Garden.
Tony moved from Madison, Wisconsin, to New York City, where he worked as a horticulturist at Battery Park City Parks for six years. Now the deputy garden editor at Martha Stewart Living, Tony has executed many magazines stories in his 11 years with the company, been a guest on Martha's various television shows, and worked with Andrew Beckman in Martha's gardens. You may also have heard him cohosting "Homegrown" on Martha Stewart Living Radio (Sirius 112 and XM 157).
So where does he get to practice what he preaches? Tony is involved with the Summit Street Community Garden in Red Hook, Brooklyn, which covers five city lots and has 30 active members. He also has been instrumental in developing the George Washington Carver Garden for Living for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. He loves a good vegetable garden, primulas, alpine gardens, and enjoys pruning (especially trees and roses).
Mario Bosquez, Host, Living Today Mario has more than 30 years of experience in television and radio broadcasting and is the author of The Chalupa Rules, a collection of insights inspired by traditional Spanish proverbs. A standup comic and playwright, he was a featured guest performer in Latinologues on Broadway. Mario shares his homes in San Antonio, Tx and New York City with his dog, Forrest, and a pair of African Grey Parrots, Dusty and Becky.
Mario has years of experience in home decorating, gardening, and pet care. He hosts parties in his homes — ranging from cocktail parties to fiestas that always feature his Mexican Chocolate Cake; a dessert he's even baked for Martha Stewart. Mario always finds inspiration and wonderful ideas in Martha Stewart's timeless, innovative approach to good living.
Kim Fernandez, Host Kim Fernandez has more than 20 years of experience in broadcasting, which includes time as a MTV VJ. She currently hosts the Morning Living show on Martha Stewart Living Radio. Kim cooks with the greatest chefs in the world, chats with health and fitness experts, and keeps listeners updated on the latest technology. "If you learned something new and had fun doing it, then I've done my job!" says Kim. She can also be heard on Fresh 102.7 in New York City, as well as several channels on SIRIUS, including the Pulse Sirius Ch. 9, Prime Country Sirius Ch. 61, and New Country Sirius Ch. 60.
Marty Goldstein, Host, Ask Martha’s Vet For over two decades, Marty Goldstein has helped and healed his animal patients with the same natural therapies that benefit humans. He uses nontoxic therapies to treat chronic and degenerative diseases, especially cancer. This allows the animals to regain and maintain their own health the way nature intended, says Marty. At his clinic, the Smith Ridge Veterinary Center in South Salem, New York, Marty and his staff regularly treat animals through metabolic and other holistic approaches. He cares for all of Martha's pets, and hopes to help listeners raise happy, healthy animals. Marty, his wife, and three daughters share a home with three dogs and three cats.
Tracie Hotchner, Host, Cat Chat Tracie's life is filled with memories of the cats who have shared time with her over the years. Florence, Lucca, Bianca, and others inspired her to write The Cat Bible: Everything Your Cat Expects You to Know, due out in October 2007. Until then you can hear her advice for keeping your kitty contented every Wednesday during Cat Chat. Tracie lives in East Hampton, New York, where she is a volunteer emergency medical technician, ambulance driver, and champion of local animal rescue centers. Unfortunately, Tracie's dogs made life too miserable for her last two cats, Bert and Ernie (they now live lives of luxury with close friends who adopted them), and so she looks forward to hearing about her listeners' cats.
Betsy Karetnick, Host Betsy Karetnick is a broadcast journalist with a background in money and personal finance. She has reported stories both nationally and internationally, and served as the host of That Money Show, a PBS-distributed series. All the while, Betsy indulged twin passions for party planning and planting. She is a passionate cook, and so started growing herbs and flowers on small balconies in New York City. Eventually Betsy has turned her hobby into The Portable Garden, a container garden and floral design business in Millburn, New Jersey. Now she is thrilled to be sharing her personal and professional experiences on Martha Stewart Living Radio in shows such as Morning Living and Everyday Food. Betsy lives in New Jersey with her husband, two children, a growing number of pets, endless containers and an impressive collection of stemware.
Allen Katz Allen Katz knows his drinks. He is the director of mixology and spirits education for Southern Wine & Spirits of New York, the president of the New York chapter of the United States Bartenders Guild, a lecturer, consultant, and all-around cocktail aficionado. He grew up in Baltimore in a family obsessed with high-quality food and beverage, and he began to appreciate the significance of the two. "It is clear that America has contributed to the world in two mighty areas: barbecue and cocktails," Allen says. If he had to choose a favorite drink, he'd choose two (that being the minimum): a rye whiskey Manhattan and a white lady. With The Cocktail Hour, Allen introduces great recipes, ingredients, tools, and tips to the home bartender.
Greg Kleva, Host, It’s a Dog’s Life Greg Kleva thinks that if you want to get your dog to listen, you have to think like a dog. In training sessions, he focuses on the dog's body language and natural instincts, taking his cues from the pup himself. Then he tries to communicate through motivation, steering the dog towards friendlier conduct. Greg joined Bark Busters, a dog-training service, in 2003, and specializes in one-on-one training and behavior modification. He is also a certified Canine Good Citizen Evaluator for The American Kennel Club. Before he became a behavioral therapist, Greg played ice hockey and lacrosse at Merrimack College in New Jersey and worked as a stockbroker on Wall Street. Today he lives in northern New Jersey with his wife and two dogs.
Jennifer Koppelman Hutt Jennifer Koppelman Hutt always knew she would end up on the radio. As a little girl growing up in a suburb of New York City, she thought her singing voice was going to get her there. Instead, her vibrant personality and unique point of view have provided her a ticket to the airwaves. Instead, Jennifer’s road to Whatever has taken some interesting twists and turns. She graduated from Tufts University in 1992, and immediately went on to get her law degree from Hofstra University. (She is licensed and in good standing.) After finishing law school, Jennifer went on to study voice and acting—all the while perfecting the art of being a socially savvy 20-something. Soon thereafter, Jennifer met her husband Keith Hutt, and put her career ambitions on hold to raise her children. Now both kids are in school, and Jennifer is ready to share with Alexis Stewart and listeners everything she has learned about friends, family, the law, and "whatever" else is on her mind...

After receiving her degree from the University of Pennsylvania , she joined Martha Stewart Living as an editorial assistant and has been actively involved with Weddings since its launch in 1995. Currently, Darcy oversees every aspect of weddings coverage in publishing, television, merchandising, internet, and radio. Under her guidance, Martha Stewart Weddings won six Society of Publication Designers Merit awards and one general excellence award from the American Society of Magazine Editors. Still, it's the brides-to-be that matter most to her. “One of the best parts of my job is working day in and day out with real women,” she says. “If the bride shines, so will the entire wedding.”
Hannah Milman, Editorial Director, Crafts, Martha Stewart Living Much of Hannah Milman's work is inspired by nature—acorns, pinecones, eggs, seashells, and cranberries are her paint and canvas. "I'm always treasure hunting wherever I go," Hannah says. When she turns her artist's eye to one of these familiar things, it becomes something else entirely. Hannah, the editorial director of crafts, is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, and has worked at Martha Stewart Living since its second issue. She has set the standard for our crafts stories, often reinterpreting arts that are all but lost. In every segment of Morning and Living Today, Hannah and her staff offer original ideas and clear how-to's, but she also encourages listeners to do things their own way. "I want to give people inspiration," she says, "so they can create something personal."

Marc Morrone, Host, Ask Marc, the Petkeeper Marc Morrone adopted his first pet, a parakeet named Jinxie, when he was four years old. By the time Marc was 18, his collection of pets had outgrown his parents' house. So in 1978, Marc and his business partner, Nick Guerra, opened Parrots of the World, a pet shop specializing in birds, ferrets, and other unusual pets. The success of the shop brought a wider recognition of Marc's talent for helping pet owners learn to care for the animals they love. In 1997, Martha Stewart invited Marc and his menagerie to make a guest appearance on Martha Stewart Living. Now, in addition to regular guest appearances on The Martha Stewart Show, Marc shares his knowledge of our furred and feathered friends on his show, Ask Marc, the Petkeeper, on Martha Stewart Living Radio.
Marion Roach, Contributor, Morning Living and Living Today. Marion Roach knows what it's like to be stumped by your kids' questions. And while she is often tempted to just say, "look it up," she can't help but see her own natural curiosity in her daughter. That characteristic led Marion to a career in journalism. She is a former staff member of the New York Times, and has written for its Science Times and Magazine sections. She is a commentator on National Public Radio's All Things Considered, and has written two books: The Roots of Desire: The Myth, Meaning and Sexual Power of Red Hair, now in its sixth printing, and Another Name for Madness, a memoir of her family's struggle with her mother's Alzheimer's disease. Marion, whose sister Margaret Roach, the Editorial Director of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, serves as host of KidStuff on Martha Stewart Living Radio. She hopes to give you the tools to learn new things with your children, and to share some laughs along the way.
Sandy Gluck, co-host of Everyday Food. For Sandra Gluck, there was no better training ground than the hustle-and-bustle restaurant scene in New York City. Over the years, Sandy has worn many hats, ranging from cookbook editor to test kitchen director to senior recipe developer. Her encyclopedic knowledge of cuisine can be seen in many of her books, including Best of Mediterranean, From the Farmer's Market, Best of Coffee, and Pasta: Great Taste, Low Fat. Lucinda has worked as a private chef, caterer, cooking teacher and freelance food writer. Lucinda's Authentic Jamaican Cooking, written prior to joining Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, was rereleased in April 2006 and she is currently at work on a new cookbook, Rustic Italian Cooking, scheduled for release in 2007. Kevin Sharkey, VP, Editorial Director, Decorating Kevin Sharkey, who has a degree in architecture, came to Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia in 1996 from Parish-Hadley, a venerable New York City interior design firm. His experience working with clients “helped make me more practical,” he says. “It’s not enough for something to look good. It also has to function.” As editorial director of decorating, Kevin creates most of the Martha Stewart Living decorating stories, and his influence is felt on every page. Each decorating story has its own style, but they all have a common thread. “Celebrate what you know and what you love,” he says. For him, the biggest compliment comes when a reader says, “I learned this from the magazine, but I did it my way.”
Alexis Stewart Alexis Stewart, daughter of Martha Stewart, is Martha’s “original apprentice.” Although Alexis has had an insider’s view of Martha’s ventures, she was also encouraged to explore her own dreams and ideas. Since the mid-1990s, Alexis has started several businesses, both in the Hamptons and New York City, to which she has brought her love of quality, cleanliness, and simplicity. In addition to being an avid reader, animal lover, and an advocate for the environment, Alexis has been a radio devotee—and an information seeker—all her life. She hopes that she and Jennifer Hutt can bring light and humor to some of the daily issues that we all face. She’s also eager to share practical advice with listeners and comfort them with the knowledge that we are all struggling toward a simpler, happier, and more fulfilling life.
