Sonny Fox
It took four moves from his hometown of Grand Rapids for Sonny Fox to make it to KHJ in 1973 during the glory days of AM radio. At 22, he was the "young punk" on the staff and became fascinated with the rise in popularity of FM radio.
After working with Lee Abrams to develop the classic rock format, he headed to Florida to begin a 21-year career as one of Miami's top rated morning men. While in Florida created radio's first syndicated stand up comedy show, the Comedy Hour which featured back-to-back routines from the top comics of the day like Bill Cosby, George Carlin, and Lenny Bruce. In 1999, he created the MP3 Comedy Network, the first service to deliver comedy bits directly to the control room of morning radio shows around the country on a daily basis.
Thirty years after their first meeting, Abrams, now head of programming at XM, asked Fox if he wanted to get involved in another radio revolution. As a result, he now programs both comedy channels on XM Satellite Radio: XM Comedy – XM 150 and Laugh USA - XM 151.
Because he's a writer and entertainer himself, Fox is attracted to the people behind the laughs. He's interviewed every major artist from George Carlin to Mel Brooks and loves sharing those moments with his XM audience.
